The day finally arrived when recently, English Language Unit of General Studies Department carried out a longed-for event called Poli Got Talent 2016. This competition aimed to pursue students’ hidden talents, which were in singing and acting and most important, to boast the students’ confidence level to speak English inside and outside the classroom.

Students from JRKV, JKM, JPH and JKE were targeted to take part in the following competition namely in solo singing competition and drama competition. The preliminary round for solo singing was held from 15 March 2016, following the preliminary for Drama Competition, which was on 20 March 2016. The grand finale for singing Competition as well as the Drama Competition was held on 24 March 2016.

There were around 150 students altogether with 19 lecturers and two judges, who are Mr Yeow Chee Kheong and Mr Johaini from JRKV who attended the programme. The programme began with the welcoming speech by Mr. Rafiq Mujilan, the Head programme, and the event was officiated by Pn. Ainun Juhariah, Head of English Unit.

For the singing category, three finalists were competing each other to win the champion title – there were Muhd Adib from DHK6A, Wan Mariam Jamal from DFP3B, Mimie Yunadia from DUP1B and Batrisyia from DEV1 and finally, as predicted, the high-pitched-but-lovable-voice, Mimie Yunadia was crowned as the champion for the singing category. She sang the song by Christina Aguilera titled Hurt. Meanwhile, for drama category there were four groups, they were DHK3A, DHK3B, DHM1A and DTP 4A. All these talented and energetic students performed stunningly during the event. Besides that, there was a pop quiz session for students who bought the tickets. It was very exciting whenever the MCs asked the students because of the interesting prizes provided by General Studies Department. The first place for every category will represent PIS for Poly Got Talent that will be held in the middle of August 2016 in Politeknik Ungku Omar, Ipoh.

Below is the complete list of the winners for each category. The prizes were given out by the Head of General Studies Department. Congratulations to all the winners for the following categories:
