On 27 March 2015, The Language Unit of General Studies Department organized a CSR programme called We Care We Share. The programme, aimed to allow Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan (PIS) students to express their thoughts in English and apply the knowledge that they had acquired at the polytechnic in a purposeful, fun and meaningful learning experience by participating in a number of prepared activities. This programme was participated by 13 facilitators who are also the fifth semester students of the PIS institution and 39 primary school students from an orphanage home known as Rumah Anak Yatim Barkat.

In the programme, the students from Rumah Barkat were welcomed by Programme Manager, Mr. Ahmad Haffizu Bin Abdullah as the representative of the organizer the moment they arrived at PIS. The organizer with the help of facilitators had prepared a number of interesting English activities such as treasure hunt, animal farm, dropbox (construct sentences), hidden pictures and action music. The main purposes of those activities were to inculcate students’ interest in using the English language, enhance the interpersonal and communication skills of PIS and orphanage institution students, make students of PIS and Rumah AnakYatim Barkat learn English through activity presentations and task fulfillments and encourage the spirit of teamwork, unity, co-operation and tolerance through participations of both groups of students in the proposed activities

Throughout the course of the event, a number of spectacular moments were captured.  Students from both institutions were having a blast in every activity. This could be seen in the hall vibrated by the laughter made by the students. The activities managed to kill the perception of seeing English as a difficult language to be learned. Other than that, the organizer had set up specific objectives for both students to improve on their vocabulary, increase their confidence to communicate effectively with lecturers and other students and also learn English language in an enjoyable way through the activities.

Towards the end of the programme, Deputy Programme Manager, Mr Muhammad AlHafiz Bin Amat Esa delivered his speech in front of almost 70 members of audience. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of empowering foreign language such as English language. According to him, students should eliminate the perception of saying English language is difficult to be learned and understood.

It is hoped that such a programme will be carried out more often in the future. This is to ensure that communities around Polytechnic Ibrahim Sultan (PIS) will realize that the role of PIS is not only to produce students with educational knowledge but also with good moral values which will enable them to give back to the community before they become part of the workforce in the country.
