Event: FUN WITH ENGLISH PROGRAMME 2014 – COMMUNICATIVE
ACTIVITIES THROUGH ENGLISH LANGUAGE GAMES

Venue: SMK Bandar Seri Alam, Johor Bahru.
Language Unit of General Studies
Department carried out an event called Fun With English Programme 2014. This
programme aimed to inculcate students’ interest in using the English language
and the most importantly to enhance the interpersonal and communication skills
of PIS and school students.
24 Students from Politeknik
Ibrahim Sultan’s English Language Society (ELS) and 100 students of SMK Bandar
Seri Alam (SMKBSA) participated in this programme. During the programme, ELS students acted as
facilitators and assisted the SMKBSA students in the language games and shared
the fun in learning the English language.
The Language games consist of the use of idioms, creating “Hope” cards
for the MH370 flight, memorizing English song lyrics and verbalizing tongue
twisters. The activities focused on four
communications skills which are listening, speaking, reading and writing.
In short, the whole programme was
a big hit with the students and educators likewise in both institutions. The
students from SMKBSA were positive towards the programme and expressed great
interested in having a follow up programme in the near future.
Credit should be given to English
language lecturers (PIS), English Language Society members (PIS) and the
teachers of SMK Bandar Seri Alam who contributed ideas and effort in order for
the programme to be carried out successfully
