A two – day English programme, Spell-It-Right Competition, which aimed at
encouraging the use of English language in a fun way and improving language
proficiency among Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan (PIS) students. The programme was
organised by English Language Unit, General Studies Department on 27 and 29
July 2015.
A total of 50 PIS students from semester
1, 3 and 5 have benefited from the programme . Among the objectives of this
programme were to improve students vocabulary, boosts the student’s confidence
and proficiency in using English language and produce students who are
articulate in English language. This programme also can thus be considered an essential
platform towards developing students’ sensitivity to effective use of
language.
Towards the end of the programme, Head
of General Studies Department, Mr. Noor
Azmi bin Asmawi delivered his speech in front of almost 200 members of audience.
In his speech, Mr. Noor Azmi addressed the importance of taking part in any
programme organized by the polytechnic. According to him, students would be
gaining valuable experience that would be useful in their lives.
It is hoped that such a programme will
be carried out more often in the future. This is to ensure that PIS students
are equipped with relevant knowledge and educational exposure before they
become part of the workforce in the country, and able to speak English
fluently.
