About
PSDE
(General
Perspective)
|
Since its
inception in 2013, PSDE practices the 4Cs (Critical Thinking, Communication,
Collaboration, and Creativity). PSDE’s
objectives are formulated in accordance to Framework for 21st
Century Learning, developed by Partnership for 21st Century Learning http://www.p21.org/ as the team
believe that students should be given the opportunity to empower the students
particularly in their language learning.
PSDE team continuously
strive to implement a wide range of language activities to improve students’
English fluency and increase shared accountability among them. PSDE
Supervisory Committee establishes roles as some students take on the role as
facilitators and the rest of their peers become participants.
The students are
trained as facilitators to organise and conduct the games for the students
(participants). PSDE encourages students to improve their language abilities
in all FOUR (4) skills; Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. Facilitators
take charge of the language games as assigned lecturers supervise the process
from event preparation to the implementation on actual day. Facilitators are
exposed to various tasks that challenge their critical thinking, creativity
and leadership skills.
In addition, participants
are given the opportunities to learn and improve their language skills from
their own peers. Peer learning essentially refers to students learning with
and from each other as fellow learners without any implied authority to any
individual, based on the tenet that “Students
learn a great deal by explaining their ideas to others and by participating
in activities in which they can learn from their peers” (Boud,
2001).
