Every
great innovation starts with a crazy idea. As the saying goes, great ideas will
inspire innovation, and something you will never see lacking in our PIS
students is, the ‘great ideas’. In fact,
as we have students with diverse background and interests, polytechnic is, more
often than not, a place where most of the great ideas are born. With the main
aim to develop the ability of our students to sell their creative and
innovative ideas to a crowd with the effective use of English language, iCreative
Challenge- The Innovative Idea Competition 2016 was launched.
The said programme has run for a time frame of about two months (13 December
2016 – 16 February 2016) and the details are as follows:
A total of forty (40) PIS students have benefitted from this programme. The participants were from DEV 4B, DRI 4C, DRI 1A, DRG 5A, DEV 4A, DRG 1B, DRI 4A, DJK 4C, DUP 3A, DEV 3 and DHK 5B. For the final round, Ms. Pooganeswari a/p Siteram Pillai (JPA) and Mr. Aidi bin Sulaiman (JKE) were appointed as the judges. The competition results are as follows: First place: DEV 4A (Eventji- led by Pn Catherine Nguoi Chui Lam), second place: DUP 3A (Transforming Furniture-led by Pn Siti Noraini binti Hamzah), third place: DRI 4A (Canting 2.0- led by En. Yeow Chee Kheong) and consolation prizes were given to the other remaining groups. Meanwhile, THE BEST PRESENTER award goes to DUP 3A while DEV 4A had successfully won the BEST-SELLING IDEA award. Towards the end of the programme, the audience was thrilled by the special performance by Nursyaza Izati binti Abd Ghani (DEV4B) and Mitchelle Grace A/P Francis (DRI3A). Meanwhile, the judges gave valuable comments and addressed that students must be creative and become creative problem solvers as these are the skills of the future. They need to unleash their creativity and understand how important it truly is to have it flourish throughout their life and career.
As a whole, not only does iCreative Challenge 2016 programme lead students to innovative and creative thinking, it also gives them the opportunity to use English effectively in presenting their innovative ideas. Most importantly, through this programme, the students and facilitators were led to see how teamwork and leadership can complement each other to accomplish outstanding projects which demonstrate excellence in ideas of their innovation. It is hoped that such programme will be carried out more often in the future.
