English Run 2016 was organized by English Unit, General Studies Department (JPA) with the main aims to inculcate the interest of learning English Language and promote healthy lifestyle among Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan (PIS) students. It was a one-day programme held at Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan on 20 January 2016.

 A total of one-hundred and sixteen (116) PIS students have benefitted from the programme. The participants were eighty-eight (88) students from various semesters across the four (4) departments of PIS, namely, JRKV (38 students), JKE (8 students), JPH (24 students) and JKM (18 students). Meanwhile, a total of twenty-eight (28) students were entrusted with the responsibilities to be the facilitators for this programme. Eighteen (18) of them are English Language Society (ELS) students while ten (10) of them are from PIS Badminton Club.

A total of five (5) language games, namely, “ Noun Search in the lyrics”, “Word Search”, “Crossword”, “Meaning Matching” and “Jumbled Words” were carefully selected, prepared and conducted concurrently at five (5) different checkpoints, namely, Checkpoint 1- Dataran Pentadbiran, Checkpoint 2- Laman Keusahawanan (PIS Library-UIDM), Checkpoint 3- the guardhouse nearest to Mechanical Engineering Department (JKM) building, Checkpoint 4- students’ hostel (Hi-tech) and Checkpoint 5- Sports Unit building respectively. Participants were required to complete the run within the stipulated time frame by completing all the prepared tasks at the five (5) checkpoints mentioned above.

The first twenty (20) participants who have successfully completed the run are listed as follows: Muhammad Mustaqim Baziz (DKM 3A) [The First Runner], Steven Raj A/l Velathan (DEP 4B) [The Second Runner], Mohamad Nur Arif B Khasrol Afandi ((DHK 3B) [The Third Runner], Muhammad Firdaus b Abd Malik (DUP 3A), Mohd Safwan (DRG 3A), Adam B Norizam (DRG 1B), Kumaresan Pillai A/l Govindasamy (DKM 1A), Thavish Ananth (DEP 4B), Mohd Hazizi B Samsul Bahari (DUP 3B), Muhammad Amirul FIrdaus (DUP 3A), Ahmed Taqi B Jamaluddin (DEM 1), Mohammad Zulkarnain B Sudheer (DRG 1B), Yosita Ramachandran (DEV 3), ALim Azim (DEM 1C), Muhammad Uzair DRI 2B), Mohamad Syafiq B Sawai (DJK 4C), Mohamad Zul Hilmi (DUP 1A), Chiah Mei See (DRI 4A), Efimarlina Bt Sumardi (DUP 1B) and Muhammad Nur Alif Aiman (DUP3A).

Meanwhile, JRKV was chosen to receive The Best Participation Award for having the most participating entries. The Best Outfit Award was won by Pendekar Fun Run Group (Muhammad Aisamuddin Hamsan, Nur Arif and Raja Ahmad Faiz) from DHK 3B. Nur Arif (DHK 3B) was also chosen as The Most Enthusiastic Runner while The Last Runner Award was given to Nur Athirah Hanim (DHM 1A). As for Instagram Challenge-English Run 2016, Nurul Asyikin BT Mohd Shariff (DFP 1C) and Nur Liyana Afiqah BT Shaharuddin (DRG 1C) were announced as the winners.

On the whole, English Run 2016 has created a fun, interesting and meaningful language learning experience for all the participants. Thus, it can be considered an essential platform towards developing the students’ interest in learning the language.
